Keeping Your Bathroom Fresh And Clean Without Breaking Your Back

June 8th, 2010

We all prefer a neat, tidy, and clean environment, given the choice. But most of us simply don’t want to put the effort in to give our living space the once-over over and over. And, of all the places we hate to clean, the bathroom tops the list more often than not. There are so many issues to deal with – hair, mildew, soap scum, toothpaste stains… Just thinking of it makes one twitch. However, it does not to be so demanding a task. It is far simpler to maintain your bathroom and keep it neat and clean than it is to make it clean.

If you need to spend significant time working on your bathroom in order to get it managable, it would be prudent to take care of that before continuing reading this article. On the other hand, if you’re seeking advice on maintaining it and keeping it clean without a struggle, read on.

The majority of tasks required to maintain your bathroom – wiping the sink and surrounding area down to keep it dry, rinsing the sink out after you brush your teeth, in order to prevent toothpaste from clinging to the sides, etc.

If your bathroom has a fan, use it. This might seem like obvious, but it’s not uncommon for people to ignore their fan and instead open a window. Though the window may seem more effective or energy efficient, it lets dirt, dust and many other sorts of unwelcome things, and will increase humidity in the bathroom as well. You can reduce mold and mildew by turning on the fan before showering and leaving it running for thirty minutes afterwards.

There are innumerable shower rinse sprays available today, many of which require no actual rinsing. All you need to do is spray, and then walk away! While not as effective as a good, thorough cleaning, misting your shower with such a spray will help it stay cleaner, longer. You can save yourself much effort by doing this, and it takes only seconds after each shower!

Now, we come to the dreaded toilet. No one like a dirty toilet, despite the fact that no one likes cleaning them all that much. Automatic toilet bowl cleaners are a must-have for keeping your bowl cleaner between cleaning sessions. This will extend the time between serious cleaning sessions, and it will keep things a lot nicer between them.

When you must clean the toilet, if you are truly apprehensive about scrubbing it down, there are myriad ‘disposable’ solutions available at your local supermarket – many bathroom cleaner brands have toilet cleaning wands with disposable scrub heads, which can then be dropped into the trash with a simple press of a button. You no longer need to worry about dealing with a worn, used, and questionably sanitary toilet scrubber.

Honestly, this information is common knowledge. It’s the little things that we tell ourselves we should do, but too often we don’t actually follow through. Still, these simple tasks – taking a few seconds, here and there – not only have you spending less time cleaning your bathroom, but will significantly reduce the amount of effort required to clean it.

Bathroom designs are constantly changing with times. The furniture in bathrooms contin innovating and adapting to the modern needs of the end user. Current trends provide more and more convenience and comfort for the bathroom occupant. Bathrooms today are a place where some where a person can relax and pamper oneself. The bathroom where a person goes for a quick shower or bath is far gone. Modern bathroom designs are more intricate using many designs and color schemes. Today’s designs are bolder and the capture of attention of the user. One great trend developing is the use of various tiles. Bathroom tiles are available in various styles and sizes.

A wonderful look tile like includes using matching tiles with different shapes that do not exactly fit perfectly in a row like perfectly square styles. Installing large tiles in a a small bathroom can give the illusion of a larger bathroom. Small tiles with various colors can be placed together to form a mosaic look on the floor or the wall. Many people have success using different size mosaic tiles in the their bathroom. This gives your bathroom a funky contemporary look. The modern bathroom typically uses more natural colors but may include some bold tiles to give it some personality. Some modern bathrooms use solid colors to accentuate the fixtures.

Bathroom vanities today have seen many improvements throughout the years. Different styles and designs will fit any designers imagination. Vanities still suit the basic functions of storage but are available in many modern minimalist shapes. Colors like solid black, white or glass seem to be the preferred choice of most modern bathroom designers. Some modern vanities include many little storage shelves and racks. The various positions of the storage places are used to hide the clutter that is found in heavily used residential bathrooms. The shapes of the vanity are typically aligned with the style of the bathroom. In some contemporary bathrooms square shapes have been used. These vanities are typically secured to the wall leaving out the presence of the legs. A softer a approach for a less contemporary bathroom is a more rounded vanity in softer hues. Glass secured pedestals are typically used in smaller bathrooms. These pedestals usually do not have much storage space and are predominately found in half baths.

Trendy bathroom fixtures may truly enhance the decor of bathroom. Just over the past few years the boring old toilet has underwent some drastic changes. Toilets are now available in many artistic styles, looking more like modern art than a toilet. Modern toilets are now manufactured to save water with each flush. Dual flush toilets one of my particular favorites, lets the person using the toilet choose between a full flush or a half flush. Not only is this type of toilet Eco friendly but it will help reduce the cost of your next water bill. There are many water conserving products available for the bathroom. In fact the National Plumbers Institute has seen a significant gain consumers purchasing low flow products. Basically when shopping around for products that will suit your taste be sure to look for green alternatives.
